Workshop for Updating the Anti-Corruption Commitment in the Health Sector
On June 25-26, a workshop titled “Updating the Anti-Corruption Commitment in the Health Sector” was held at the Jolly Alon Hotel in Chișinău. The event was supported by GIZ and the Swiss Cooperation Office, as part of the project “Equity in Health through Social Accountability” implemented by the Swiss Red Cross in partnership with AO HOMECARE and AO CASMED.
The workshop brought together key authorities and institutions from the health system, international and local experts, as well as representatives from the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA). The main goal of the event was to strengthen managerial capacities in managing corruption risks and to facilitate a multipartite dialogue with civil society to prevent corruption in the health sector.
At the opening of the event, representatives from both the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova and the donors, GIZ Moldova and the Swiss Cooperation Office, emphasized the importance of continuous commitment in combating corruption to improve health services.
Topics discussed included:
- Corruption in the Health Sector: Daniela Cepeda Cuadrado, Senior Adviser U4, and Daniel Sejerøe Hausenkamph, Adviser U4, presented how corruption manifests in Moldova and other countries, offering both theoretical and practical perspectives.
- Corruption Risk Management (CRM): Daniela Cepeda Cuadrado and Mostafa Hunter, Associate Expert U4, explained the importance of institutional prevention and modern approaches to risk management.
- Moldova’s Status in Health and Anti-Corruption: Victoria Popa, Local Expert, along with U4 experts, analyzed current achievements and challenges, identifying opportunities to advance anti-corruption efforts.
The workshop concluded with the establishment of future commitments and agreement on ways to move forward, highlighting the necessity of a collective and coordinated effort to reduce corruption risks and improve transparency and integrity in the health sector in the Republic of Moldova.
