The Gratitude March Symbols

AO Homecare organized today the “Gratitude March Symbols” event at the Maria Magdalena Medico-Social Center in Ștefan Vodă, as a gesture of solidarity and gratitude between the local community of Ștefan Vodă city and the Ukrainian refugees. The initiative emphasizes the importance of fighting against gender-based violence and promotes intercultural cooperation.

At the “Gratitude March Symbols” workshop, 30 participants, among whom 15 Ukrainian refugees and 15 local women, created march symbols, a symbol of spring and solidarity.

The family center psychologist from Ștefan Vodă, Cătălina Damaschin, held an educational lecture on the fight against gender-based violence. Cătălina Damaschin noted that gender-based violence represents any act of violence based on a person’s gender, which results in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological, or economic harm. This includes threats of such acts, coercion, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life. The issue of gender-based violence is deeply rooted in structural inequality and gender discrimination, significantly affecting women and girls worldwide. “Prevention efforts must include education on gender equality from an early age, promoting healthy relationships and mutual respect. Educational programs should incorporate discussions on consent and personal boundaries,” says Cătălina Damaschin. Combating gender-based violence requires a concerted and multidisciplinary effort, involving governments, non-governmental organizations, communities, and individuals, to build a more equitable society.

The march symbols crafted in the creative workshop were distributed to visitors of the Health Center in Ștefan Vodă, in a beautiful gesture of solidarity and gratitude. This action aimed not only to mark the beginning of spring but also to celebrate the unity and intercultural cooperation between the local community and Ukrainians. The carefully and dedicatedly made march symbols were offered to passersby as a symbol of gratitude and solidarity towards the support provided to Ukrainian refugees.

Through this initiative, the “Gratitude March Symbols” seeks not only to honor traditions but also to serve as an example of unity and mutual support in the face of adversity, promoting a fairer and more inclusive society.
