Telemedicine: An Innovative Project Supported by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) A Corporation (PCUSA), in partnership with AO “HOMECARE,” is implementing the project “Space and Time Measured by the Heart – Through Telemedicine, Closer to Every Person Who Suffers and Needs Help.” This project will provide quick and accessible consultations to 1,500 Ukrainian refugees and local residents, offered by specialists in fields such as general medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, psychology, and more.
The project is being carried out through eight medical-social centers in the Republic of Moldova, managed by AO “HOMECARE.” These centers provide home care services and, more recently, have been leveraging telemedicine technology to deliver specialized medical consultations remotely. Through the existing e-homecare.md platform, patients are granted access to specialists in various fields. Previous experiences have demonstrated that telemedicine, supported by modern equipment and trained medical staff, offers significant advantages: quick and accessible consultations, cost and time savings for patients, continuous health monitoring, and psychological support for Ukrainian refugees.
“The shortage of medical personnel, especially in rural areas caused by migration, has led to the increasing popularity of this service. Currently, the waiting list for accessing this service exceeds 5,000 people, more than half of whom are Ukrainian refugees,” said AO Homecare Director Tamara Adașan.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is taking over the funding of this service following its initial development by Caritas Czechia, with support from the Czech Development Agency.
The involvement of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) ensures the sustainability of this project, enhancing access to medical care for both Ukrainian refugees and local residents, while also contributing to the creation of a modern public health model in the Republic of Moldova.
