Support for Ukrainian Refugees through Psychological and Social Services in Chișinău

In January 2024, AO Homecare, in collaboration with UNFPA, launched a project aimed at supporting Ukrainian refugees by opening a “Safe Space” for psychological services within the UNHCR Community Center in Chișinău, located at Gheorghe Cașu Street, No. 32. This space primarily targets refugee women and girls, while also offering support to men and boys.

In the first quarter of the year, the psychological office organized informative and emotional support sessions on topics such as gender equality, protection against gender-based violence, and access to essential health services. The project places a particular focus on education regarding protection services in cases of gender-based violence and encourages participant feedback through the UNFPA network.

In addition to psychological support, refugees received vouchers for hygiene products available at Linella stores, specifically for women and girls between the ages of 12 and 24, as well as hygiene kits for the most vulnerable. The project complements legal and social consultations that cover areas such as access to employment, education, and medical services, providing information on temporary protection under medical and social aspects.

Depending on individual needs, refugees are directed to other specialized services, both within the Community Center, including legal assistance and financial support, as well as external services, such as medical and dental consultants, mental health centers, and “Youth Clinic” Youth Centers.

This initiative is part of the program “Improving Access to Essential Health Services and Protection against Gender-Based Violence for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities,” supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in the Republic of Moldova and funded by the European Union.
