SAFE SPACES. FIRST PSYCHOLOGICAL AID
Psychologists from Safe Spaces attended a workshop on providing mental health and psychosocial support to refugees and host families.
Participants discussed the most effective support models for people with mental health problems and psychological trauma, how to provide first aid and conduct psychological assessment, as well as how to best provide long-term psychosocial and mental health support.
Psychologists in safe spaces are committed to providing essential services to refugees arriving in Moldova, such as psychological first aid and referral to specialized services if needed. Through these actions we make a significant contribution to the prevention and treatment of mental health problems.
“Refugees as wel as host families with whom we interact, react differently to loss, pain, disruptions to the rhythm of life, to different types of violence. All these affect their mental health as well as psychosocial comfort. This makes women vulnerable. We learned how to manage the consequences, how to reduce the negative impact and offer support to the affected people”, says Marina Marian, psychologist in safe spaces, Greblești, Străseni.
#SafeSpaces have been launched by @UNFPA jointly with implementing partners, including AO Homecare, as response to the refugee crisis. Within these spaces, Ukrainian women and girls, as well as people from the host communities, benefit from psychosocial support, information about gender-based violence, about specialized services they can acces in case of need.
