Project “Towards health equity through social accountability”
The project “Towards health equity through social accountability ” is implemented by the Swiss Red Cross in partnership with AO HOMECARE and AO CASMED and is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The project is a component of the World Bank project “Modernization of the health sector in the Republic of Moldova” and is implemented in the period May 2019- April 2023.
The purpose of the project is to increase the responsibility of the authorities and institutions in the health system towards patients and the population by creating and/or strengthening the existing social accountability mechanisms.
AO HOMECARE is responsible for the implementation of the Outcome 2 and Outcome 3 of the project.
Outcome 2. The Mandatory Health Insurance is sustainable and achieves nationwide coverage:
- Civil Society Organizations observe on Health Benefit Package and allocation of National Health Insurance Company funds.
- The National Health Insurance Company is supported in using social accountability mechanisms.
- The Parliamentary Commission is exposed and supported in leading participatory and transparent discussions on the Health Benefit Package, overseeing the health reforms and improving the legal framework for health.
Outcome 3. The Moldovan population is effectively protected against impoverishing health expenditures:
- The professional associations and medical professionals are trained and sensitized on evidence-based drug prescription and rational use of essential drugs.
- The collaboration with the newly formed National Public Health Agency is established.
- The capacity of agencies of restraint, lawyers and Civil Society Organizations are strengthened to improve accountability for health.
