Odesa: Second Round of Homecare Training Seminar Begins
The second round of the international seminar dedicated to the development of home-based medico-social care services in Ukraine commenced on Monday in the Odesa region, bringing together 100 participants, including specialists, local government representatives, and healthcare and social workers.
The event is organized by the Homecare Association of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the Czech Development Agency (CzechAID) and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Chișinău. It forms part of the regional project “Transferring Best Practices in Homecare”, which leverages Moldova’s experience to foster the establishment of similar services across Ukrainian communities.
To ensure optimal learning conditions, the training facilities and accommodation spaces have been refurbished and equipped with new desks, air conditioning units, bed linen, and televisions, all financed through project funds. Organizers emphasized that these investments were made to provide participants with a conducive environment for both study and rest.
The seminar’s agenda comprises both theoretical and practical sessions, addressing the legal framework of medico-social services, quality standards, professional ethics, the organization of homecare centers, and modern methods of patient care.
According to the organizers, home-based care services have become indispensable in the current wartime context, as many hospitals and social centers have been destroyed or are operating beyond capacity. Elderly people, those with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or war-related injuries are among the most vulnerable groups, often facing limited access to essential medical care. Implementing community-level homecare services helps alleviate the burden on hospitals, ensures patients’ safety in their own homes, and reduces the risks of neglect, isolation, or unnecessary hospitalization.
“This seminar is not merely a transfer of technical knowledge; it is a shared commitment to building essential services for the most vulnerable members of society,” said Tamara Adașan, President of AO Homecare.
At the conclusion of the program, each participant will receive two homecare manuals in Russian and Ukrainian, as well as a fully equipped medical kit containing bandages and basic instruments, enabling them to apply their newly acquired knowledge immediately in their professional practice.
