Medical and Social Services for Ukrainian Refugees in Moldova – Phase III
118 Ukrainian refugees, living in the localities of Chisinau municipality, have benefited from the assistance provided by the largest Theoretical-Practical Care Center “ESTERA” (Chisinau municipality), which is part of a network of 10 Medical-Social Centers of the Public Association “Homecare.” For 580 days and nights, since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, they have remained actively involved in managing the refugee crisis.
This activity falls within the project “Medical and Social Services for Ukrainian Refugees in Moldova – Phase III,” implemented with the support of the international organization HELP – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e.V., which allowed us, in the first two phases of the project, to support over 10,000 Ukrainian refugees by providing various forms of assistance, including medication and hygiene products, food, information, medical-social, legal, and psycho-emotional support.
To start, 40 refugee families, identified based on predetermined criteria, including 31 minors and 39 individuals in need of medical-social care, received:
- 40 sets of hygiene products (soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, and garbage bags).
- 40 packages of non-perishable food items (wheat flour, rice, pasta, sugar, salt, sunflower oil, vinegar, and tomato paste).
- The establishment of a mobile team allowed for the provision of medical-social care directly to the beneficiaries’ homes, including the delivery of essential medications recommended by doctors. In total, since the beginning of the project, 39 patients from refugee families have benefited from these services through the mobile team of the Theoretical-Practical Care Center “ESTERA”.
- Equipping the mobile team with a modern notebook connected to the internet network enabled individualized assistance to 18 refugees with special needs in submitting pre-registration applications for obtaining temporary protection in the Republic of Moldova.
The Theoretical-Practical Care Center “ESTERA,” built by the Public Association “Homecare” in 2011 with the financial support of the Czech Republic, is one of the 8 medical-social centers involved in the project “Medical and Social Services for Ukrainian Refugees in Moldova – Phase III”.
Due to its location in the capital of the Republic of Moldova, the center’s services are accessed by a significant number of refugees who have temporarily settled in Chisinau, fleeing the atrocities of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
The project “Medical and Social Services for Ukrainian Refugees in Moldova – Phase III” is funded by the international organization Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e.V. Its main goal is to support 200 refugee families settled in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova by facilitating access to health and social protection services.
