Hope and Support in Cahul for Ukrainian Refugees

In Cahul, the UNFPA/Homecare Safe Space, located in the UNHCR Community Center, continues to be a beacon of hope and support for Ukrainian refugees.

Psychologists at the Safe Space conduct activities designed to evoke strong emotions and help refugees cope with trauma through various innovative methods such as metaphorical cards, music therapy, occupational therapy, and interactive discussions.

These activities are not limited to the center’s interior; they also take place outdoors, in collaboration with other local organizations such as CDA, Laolaltă, and IOM. These initiatives provide refugees with a safe environment and psychological support while also promoting their integration into the local community.

In addition to recreational activities and informative sessions, the psychologists offer psychological consultations for women, girls, men, and boys. Recently, there has been an increase in group sessions and family consultations, tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual.

An essential component of the support provided by the Safe Space is the distribution of hygiene kits to the most vulnerable women, ensuring access to basic personal hygiene products, depending on availability.

These efforts are part of a broader initiative supported by UNFPA and other international organizations, aimed at providing comprehensive support to refugees in Moldova. This model combines psychological assistance with educational and social integration activities, creating a conducive environment for the recovery and personal development of the refugees.

This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
