Homecare Expands Care Services with In-Home Occupational Therapy Sessions
Homecare has expanded its package of care services by offering in-home occupational therapy sessions. These services improve access to care and facilitate rapid and personalized interventions, thus contributing to the increased independence and quality of life of the beneficiaries.
The Non-Governmental Organization “Homecare,” as part of the project “Strengthening Capacities and Financial Sustainability in the Social Home Care Sector in Moldova,” supported by Caritas Czech Republic and funded by the Czech Development Agency, successfully offers occupational therapy services. These services are available in five medico-social centers across the country: the Theoretical-Practical Center “Estera” in Chișinău, the Medico-Social Centers “Rebeca” in Bălți, “Sf. Iuliana” in Țaul, Dondușeni district, “Maria Magdalena” in Ștefan Vodă, and “Sfânta Agata” in Ocnița.
Occupational therapy enables medical and social assistants to support the elderly in developing and recovering the skills necessary for performing daily activities as independently as possible. Through these services, individuals who have suffered from illnesses or trauma are encouraged to overcome inaction, passivity, and resignation, regaining their psychological, physical, and social independence. This way, they can continue to live an active and desired lifestyle with an enhanced quality of life.
The teams of medical and social assistants use advanced techniques from medicine and psychology, preceded by evaluating cognitive and communication skills, sensory functions, organizational and behavioral regulation capacities, as well as the ability to adapt to different environments and situations.
Since the beginning of 2024, the staff of the medico-social centers has conducted 1,909 in-home occupational therapy sessions, and it is projected that by the end of the year, an additional 3,250 sessions will be completed. This expansion of services provides essential support to those needing the help of qualified personnel, significantly contributing to improving their quality of life.
Implementing occupational therapy brings home care services to the forefront, emphasizing Homecare’s commitment to excellence and adaptability in social services. This initiative is an extraordinary example of how modern methods can make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable members of society.
