MOBILE SAFE SPACE in BASARABEASCA

Tatiana is a refugee from Zaporozhye and has been in Moldova for more than 1 year. She and her children are hosted by relatives. She says she is satisfied with the way she is treated, but especially with the help offered by everyone. Tatiana claims that the information she has obtained from the Homecare mobile team is extremely valuable, particularly on gender-based violence, reproductive health, specialised services.

For a week, the Homecare mobile has been providing services to refugies and host families from Basarabeasca rayon. They have been talking to about 150 women from Ukraine and their hosts, from rayon center and villages around it. The purpose of the mobile team’s activity is to inform refugees about how they can act in the situation of discrimination, sexual or gender-based violence and to provide psychological, social and legal assistance.

Homecare specialists have also provided refugees with information on how to solve some of the current problems they face. They asked for help placing children in schools or where to find recreational activities for the little ones.

The coordinator of the mobile team, Adrian Adașan, states that cases of evident gender-based violence are rare or that women, most of the time, prefer not to talk about it immediately.

As part of the intervention, each woman and girl receives a hygiene kit with essential products. Activities have a wide scope and are supported by the United Nations Population Fund @UNFPA throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova as a response to the refugee crisis. The teams are made up of social workers, psychologists and legal profesionals and offer practical advice on how refugees can interact with the Moldovan authorities or act in crisis situations.
