AO Homecare’s contribution to enhancing healthcare performance

In the collaborative efforts between the Swiss Red Cross and AO HOMECARE, a delegation from the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) seized an invaluable opportunity to bolster their capacities in social responsibility. Spanning from November 27th to December 2nd, 2023, they embarked on a fact-finding mission to Belgium, aimed at comprehending the implementation of this mechanism and engaging all stakeholders within the healthcare domain to fortify the medical sector.

Representatives from CNAM convened at CM Belgiană (Belgian Christian Mutualité), engaging in discussions about mandatory healthcare provisions and services extended to members. Simultaneously, they delved into patients’ rights and the role of civil society in the healthcare system. Concurrently, the delegation conducted meetings and tours across various hospitals and healthcare centers in Belgium, including UZ Leuven and the Herentals Community Health Center, to gain deeper insights into these institutions’ approaches concerning patient care and their rights. Concluding their visit, the delegation explored a regional hospital in Turnhout and met with representatives from CM (Christian Mutualité) in the Antwerp region, alongside other organizations involved in healthcare and patients’ rights.

This experience provided the delegation with a comprehensive perspective on the Belgian healthcare system and how patients’ rights are protected and advocated for. “We have come to realize that the patient is the focal point of the system, and this will be our primary objective for the upcoming year,” affirmed Mr. Ion DODON, the General Director of CNAM.

Moreover, the CNAM delegation had a meeting with His Excellency, Mr. Viorel Cibotaru, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Belgium and Luxembourg. Following discussions, the Ambassador expressed support for initiating future collaborations among the involved institutions.

The study visit was organized within the framework of the “Equity in Health through Social Responsibility” project, implemented by the Swiss Red Cross in partnership with AO HOMECARE and AO CASMED, receiving financial support from the Swiss Government.
