Training Courses to Expand Homecare Services in Ukraine – A Homecare Initiative Supported by CzechAID

From May 5–8, the NGO Homecare Association, with the support of the Czech Development Agency (CzechAID), organized an intensive training course in Chișinău aimed at expanding homecare services in Ukraine 🇺🇦. This initiative is part of a regional project focused on strengthening support systems for vulnerable individuals, with an emphasis on hands-on training and the exchange of best practices.

🤝 A long-standing partner of the Republic of Moldova 🇲🇩, CzechAID continues to support the development of sustainable and humane solutions amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Their involvement contributes to the professionalization of homecare services across both urban and rural areas in the region.

🗣️ “Through this training, we aim to provide not only knowledge but also confidence. The participants from Ukraine showed a genuine interest in adapting Moldovan care models to their own communities. We believe that our experience can support Ukraine’s reconstruction and sustainable development,” said Tamara Adașan, Director of Homecare.

👥 The course brought together 15 participants from various regions of Ukraine – from Vinnytsia and Odesa to Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Kyiv – fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and valuable experience sharing.

📚 Over the four days of training, key topics covered included:

  • Foundations of homecare services 🏡
  • Professional ethics and beneficiaries’ rights ⚖️
  • Effective communication with elderly and disabled individuals 🧓
  • Emergency medical interventions 🚑
  • Collaboration with existing healthcare systems 🏥
  • Fundraising and project writing for community services 💼

🎓 Theoretical modules were complemented by practical workshops in which participants developed concrete action plans tailored to local needs, with the goal of implementing them in the coming months.

💬 “Homecare must be built on fundamental human values: dignity, empathy, and equity. Professionalism alone is not enough in the face of suffering – humanity is essential,” emphasized Rodica Grama, lecturer at the “Nicolae Testemițanu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

✅ Participants expressed enthusiasm about the course’s practical focus and a strong desire to apply the knowledge gained in their communities affected by the conflict.
