Support for Ukrainian Refugee Women at UNFPA Safe Space in Palanca

The UNFPA Safe Space, located in the neutral zone at the Palanca border in Ștefan Vodă district, continues to provide essential support to Ukrainian refugee women who have arrived or are in transit. Psychologists at this specialized center offer counseling on vital topics such as gender equality, protection against gender-based violence, and access to essential health services.

Additionally, women receive assistance in accessing refugee hotlines and, when necessary, help with finding accommodation within the Republic of Moldova. The psychologists are prepared to offer psychological and emotional first aid, as well as individual or group psychological consultations.

For the most vulnerable women, AO Homecare provides hygiene kits, including various sanitary products based on their urgent needs. The Safe Space psychologists also offer consultations regarding temporary protection status, its extension, and the conditions for receiving financial aid for refugees.

A recent case is Natalia from Odessa, who arrived at the Safe Space with her two children, Angelina (6 years old) and Maxim (10 years old). Natalia shared that they fled from the war in their country, leaving her husband, who is in poor health, behind. “It’s difficult for me, but I come back every two months to buy medicine for my sick daughter. I just want to return home with my children and sleep in our own beds,” she said.

Natalia expressed her gratitude to the Safe Space team for the services provided and for the hygiene kit she received.

This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
