Support for Natalia and Her Daughters: Emotional Healing in the Face of Conflict

Natalia, a 41-year-old woman from Odessa, arrived today at the Community Center on Gheorghe Cașu Street 32 in Chișinău with her two daughters, Xenia, aged 8, and Daria, aged 5. The family fled Ukraine due to the intensified bombings on the city of Odessa, where Natalia’s husband remains behind.

At the community center, coordinated by UNFPA and Homecare, Natalia and her daughters received psychological support. Psychologist Olesea Chircu facilitated art therapy activities for the children, allowing them to express their emotions through drawing and coloring. Meanwhile, Natalia spoke with the psychologist about her concerns regarding her family’s safety and the uncertain future of her husband, who stayed behind in Ukraine.

The girls participated in counseling activities through art, a way to process the stress caused by the war. Psychologists at the Safe Space center regularly provide emotional support to refugee families, helping them cope with the psychological impact of the conflict.

Safe Space is one of the secure environments provided by UNFPA at the Community Center in Chișinău for women and children affected by the crisis in Ukraine, where they can receive counseling and social support.

This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
