Solidarity in Action: Providing Essential Support to Ukrainian Refugees at the Palanca Border
The activities at the “Safe Space” Homecare/UNFPA center, located in the neutral zone at the Palanca border, continue to provide essential support to Ukrainian refugees crossing into Moldova. Psychologist Nadejda Șcraba offers psychological and emotional support to those affected by the conflict in Ukraine, whether they plan to stay in Moldova or are in transit to other countries.
At the “Safe Space” Homecare/UNFPA center, children traveling with their mothers are engaged in recreational activities such as drawing and board games, and they are served sweets and water, essential resources during the hot summer days.
Recently, a refugee family from the Odesa region, consisting of two parents and four children, arrived at the Palanca crossing point. Exhausted by the conflict and lacking resources, they were warmly welcomed and supported upon entering Moldova. The family received psychological consultations, a hygiene kit, and was later directed to the Green Line, where they were assisted in finding accommodation at a refugee center in Hâncești.
Despite the hardships, the family continues to visit their parents who remained in Ukraine, stopping by the “Safe Space” each time to share their experiences and receive the necessary support.
This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
