Returning to Moldova After a Failed Attempt to Go Back Home
Nina Vladimirovna, a 67-year-old woman, has returned to Moldova after her attempt to go back to her hometown of Kharkiv was thwarted by the ongoing risks of the war in Ukraine.
Last summer, Nina fled Kharkiv in search of refuge in Moldova. With the help of the “Safe Space” service at the Train Station, she received essential information regarding protection and stay options. She was housed in a refugee center where she received support and humanitarian aid.
A few months ago, hopeful for an improvement in Ukraine’s situation, Nina decided to return to Kharkiv. However, the harsh reality of the war made it impossible for her to remain there. Without close relatives and with the increasing dangers of the conflict, Nina found herself forced to return to Moldova.
Upon her return to Chișinău, Nina once again contacted the “Safe Space” service at the Train Station, which provided her with psychological support and updated information on available assistance. Through the helpline (080080011), she was rehoused in a refugee center. AO “Homecare” ensured her safe transport and provided her with a hygiene kit.
Nina Vladimirovna is now rebuilding her life in Moldova, with the support of the community and aid organizations. Although her longing for home remains strong, she continues to hope for a peaceful and secure life in Moldova.
This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
