Psychological Support for Ukrainian Refugees at Safe Space UNFPA/Homecare in Chișinău
The psychological support activities at the “Safe Space” UNFPA/Homecare center, located in the Sanatoriul Preventoriu de Bază Constructorul on N. Zelinski Street 15 in Chișinău, continue to provide emotional and informational assistance to Ukrainian refugees. The program supports approximately 140 people, including 100 adults and 40 minors.
On the 3rd floor (office 327), psychologists conduct activities focused on essential topics such as gender equality, protection against gender-based violence, and access to essential health services. The support is primarily aimed at women and girls, but men and boys also benefit from these services.
“We are here not only to offer psychological assistance but also to create a safe space where refugees can openly talk about their challenges,” said Stela Șatova, one of the psychologists involved in the project.
The activities extend beyond the psychological office, taking place in other areas of the sanatorium, including meeting rooms, the dining hall, and outdoor spaces. Recreational activities for children, such as board games, drawing, and prize competitions, are also organized.
The program is coordinated by two experienced psychologists, sisters Stela Șatova and Galina Parekko-Pecnei, who have earned the trust of the refugees. Many women regularly come to discuss their struggles with them.
“Safe Space” UNFPA/Homecare continues its mission to provide vital support to Ukrainian refugees, contributing to their well-being and security during these challenging times.
This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
