Parascovia’s Story: A Life Marked by War and Hope
In the village of Batîr, located in Cimișlia district, the Homecare/UNFPA mobile team met Parascovia, a 73-year-old Ukrainian refugee originally from the Kharkiv region. Parascovia managed to escape the horrors of the war in Ukraine, leaving behind everything she cherished. For nearly two years, she has settled in Moldova, trying to find peace in what is almost an entirely new world for her.
The news from Ukraine eventually reached her: her home, the result of a lifetime of hard work, was destroyed. Her son, her last source of support after the death of her husband, was drafted into the army and sent to the front lines, far from his mother’s sight, who could only pray for his safety.
“It was a deadly silence,” Parascovia recalls. “I didn’t even get a phone call from him. My only hope was God, to whom I prayed constantly to protect my son and bring him back alive.”
Recently, phone contact was restored, and now Parascovia receives a call from her son every two days. While the news that he is still alive brings her some comfort, the fear for the future remains deeply rooted in her heart.
The Homecare/UNFPA team provided Parascovia with psychological and emotional support, helping her cope with the challenges life has thrown at her. She also received a material aid kit, for which she is profoundly grateful.
In this small Moldovan village, where efforts are being made to bring light into the darkness left by the war, Parascovia finds the strength to keep going, holding on to hope and the support of those around her.
After completing their activities in Cimișlia district, the Homecare/UNFPA mobile team continued their work in the Căușeni district.
This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
