MusicTherapyNewAlliance #WellbeingInCahul: Innovative Support for Ukrainian Refugees
🎶 At the beginning of June, psychologists from the “Safe Space” Homecare/UNFPA at the Cahul Community Center launched an innovative initiative, introducing music therapy as a new form of support for Ukrainian refugees. Music therapy uses the rhythm, melody, and harmony of music to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of participants.
This therapy, which includes listening to music, singing, composing, or musical improvisation, has already been successfully used in various fields such as medical treatments, rehabilitation, and special education. Among the benefits of music therapy are reduced stress, improved mood, enhanced cognitive functions, and pain relief.
In addition to music therapy sessions, “Safe Space” psychologists provide beneficiaries with essential information about available services, including medical and mental health consultations, employment opportunities, education, and other types of assistance.
Furthermore, vouchers for hygiene products at Linella stores were distributed to women and girls aged 12 to 24, subject to availability. For the most vulnerable women, hygiene kits tailored to their individual needs were provided.
This initiative by UNFPA and UNHCR represents an important step in supporting Ukrainian refugees in Cahul, offering not only psychological support but also access to essential resources for easier integration and a better life.
This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
