Innovative Psychological Support for Ukrainian Refugees in Cahul
At the UNHCR Community Center in Cahul, psychologists from the UNFPA/Homecare Safe Space have implemented the use of metaphorical maps to support Ukrainian refugees. This innovative method, used by psychologists and therapists, facilitates the exploration of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, opening a pathway to the subconscious and offering new insights into personal awareness.
The method involves using visual images and symbols to explore and understand various aspects of personal and professional life. These maps serve as tools for reflection and self-discovery, allowing participants to identify and analyze their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Through metaphorical maps, beneficiaries can discover new perspectives and creative solutions to the challenges they face, fostering personal and professional development.
In addition, psychologists provide beneficiaries with essential information about various services available, including medical and mental health consultations, employment opportunities, educational processes, and other forms of assistance. Subject to availability, vouchers for hygiene products in Linella stores have been distributed to women and girls aged 12-24. For the most vulnerable women, hygiene kits tailored to individual needs have been provided.
This initiative by UNFPA and UNHCR is a crucial step in supporting Ukrainian refugees in Cahul, offering not only psychological support but also access to essential resources for smoother integration and better living conditions.
This activity is part of the program “Improving Access to Essential Health Services and Protection from Gender-Based Violence for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities,” supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) and funded by the European Union.
