Essential Support for Refugees: Therapeutic Activities and Assistance at Safe Space Cahul

The activities at the UNFPA/Homecare Safe Space, located in the UNHCR Community Center in Cahul, continue to provide vital support to refugees. Psychologist Lilia Moraru regularly conducts sessions for refugees, who eagerly attend these meetings. Various therapeutic methods are employed, including metaphorical games, music therapy, occupational therapy, and interactive discussions.

These methods allow for the exploration and expression of complex emotions, reduce stress and anxiety, and facilitate the development of social and communication skills. Music therapy contributes to emotional regulation, while occupational therapy helps restore functionality and independence. Interactive discussions create a safe space for expression and mutual support, promoting emotional healing. Overall, these interventions are crucial to the adaptation and recovery process for vulnerable individuals.

Additionally, the Safe Space psychologist has gained the trust of humanitarian workers from other subdivisions within the Cahul Community Center, who also seek psychological and emotional support to cope with accumulated stress.

Informational and psychological activities at Safe Space take place both within the Community Center and outdoors, individually or in groups. Topics covered include gender equality, protection against gender-based violence, access to essential health services, and other relevant subjects, all tailored to the real needs of refugees. When necessary, the most vulnerable women also receive material support in the form of hygiene kits, subject to availability.

This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
