Emotional Therapy and Support for Ukrainian Refugees at Safe Space Cahul

The therapy sessions conducted by psychologist Lilia Tătaru at the Safe Space office, UNFPA/Homecare in Cahul, continue to provide emotional support and opportunities for self-exploration for Ukrainian refugee women and young girls. These sessions not only offer a safe space but also encourage personal development and emotional management in a crisis context.

During the latest session, participants were invited to use visual metaphors, through metaphorical cards, to build a symbolic bridge between their current emotional states and the ones they wish to reach. The bridge method, an innovative psychological exercise, allowed participants to assess their present situation, explore their emotions and available resources, and identify the steps needed to achieve their desired state. This process helps them visualize their path toward balance and clarity, creating a supportive framework for defining personal goals.

The atmosphere during group sessions is one of empathy and collaboration, with the method carefully tailored to individual needs. Participants describe the sessions as “incredibly interesting and educational,” offering both personal learning and a safe platform for emotional exploration. Gratitude and appreciation for the support provided are reflected in numerous positive comments, with participants expressing their thanks for the emotional support received during these difficult times.

The Community Center in Cahul, where these sessions take place, provides a safe space for youth, women, and the elderly, with the support of UNFPA-Moldova. All activities and services are completely free, and the sessions contribute to fostering a sense of belonging and community solidarity, which is essential amid the ongoing refugee crisis in Ukraine.

This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
