Community and Humanitarian Support for Ukrainian Refugees in Ștefan Vodă

This week, the UNFPA/Homecare mobile team operated in Ștefan Vodă district, focusing on providing essential aid to Ukrainian refugees. The team addressed vital issues such as gender equality and protection against gender-based violence, alongside facilitating access to essential health services.

The team placed special emphasis on psychosocial, emotional, and informational support, promoting equality and protection within the community. The initiative included the distribution of hygiene product vouchers and consultations on temporary protection and medical benefits, offering tangible help to those affected.

In a village in Ștefan Vodă, Evghenia, a 64-year-old woman from Sverdlovsk, Kirovograd region, continues to weave the threads of hope and resilience. Her life has brought numerous responsibilities: as a caring sister, grandmother, and emotional support pillar for a family fragmented by difficult circumstances. Amid this harsh reality, she has found shelter with her sister, who is currently hospitalized after suffering a stroke.

Evghenia is responsible for her 6-year-old granddaughter while the child’s mother seeks survival solutions in Poland. Torn between her desire to return to Ukraine to reunite with her son and the financial and health challenges she faces, her life is full of obstacles.

The meeting with the UNFPA/Homecare mobile team brought a ray of hope to her life. The assistance provided, whether through consultations, informative materials, or hygiene products, brought some comfort and security. Her deep gratitude reflects the significant impact that acts of kindness and solidarity can have on those in need.

This activity is part of the program “Improving Access to Essential Health Services and Protection against Gender-Based Violence for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities,” supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in the Republic of Moldova and funded by the European Union.
