Basarabeasca – The mobile team provides support to refugees and victims of domestic violence

At the beginning of November, the Homecare/UNFPA mobile team conducted a support campaign in the Basarabeasca district of the Republic of Moldova, providing assistance to Ukrainian refugee women and victims of domestic violence.

Interventions took place in five of the six localities in the district that host Ukrainian refugees: Abaclia, Bascalia, Carabetoca, Iordanovca, and the commune of Iserlia. In Sadaclia, the team provided support to victims of domestic violence, offering psychological counseling and other forms of assistance.

The refugee women benefited from: • Guidance on preventing gender-based violence (GBV) • Sexual and reproductive health • Information on access to essential services (medical insurance, employment opportunities, material aid, legal counseling) Vulnerable individuals received hygiene kits, and all beneficiaries were informed about a feedback phone number to facilitate inquiries, recommendations, or expressions of gratitude.

Among the beneficiaries is Liubovi, a 49-year-old refugee from Kherson, Ukraine, who fled the conflict with a few neighbors. After Kherson was occupied, Liubovi sought refuge in Moldova, arriving in the village of Bascalia, where she was welcomed and supported by the local community. She expressed her gratitude for the support provided by the Homecare/UNFPA mobile team, which ensured her an essential hygiene kit and specialized assistance.

The support campaign carried out by the Homecare/UNFPA mobile team continues to provide refugee women with a sense of safety and access to essential services, contributing to an improved quality of life in Moldova.

This activity is part of the program “Improving access to essential health and protection services against gender-based violence for refugees from Ukraine and host communities,” supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in the Republic of Moldova and funded by the European Union.
