Alexei Bukanov Expresses Gratitude for Support Received at Safe Space Palanca

Alexei Bukanov, a resident of the Odesa region who sought refuge in Moldova due to intense attacks on his hometown, shared a message of gratitude today with the Safe Space Palanca office of UNFPA/Homecare. Bukanov, along with his wife Anastasia and their three children — two daughters aged 12 and 10, and a 3-year-old son — were forced to leave their home following the recent escalation of bombings.

“We are deeply grateful for the psychological support and the information provided to our family,” wrote Alexei Bukanov. “I kindly ask that such activities continue in the future. Thank you very much for everything,” he added in his message to the staff at Safe Space Palanca.

The family’s decision to seek refuge in Moldova followed a massive drone and missile attack on the Odesa region on Saturday night. Ukraine was targeted by a record number of 145 drones, of which 62 were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses. The attacks caused significant damage to the port of Odesa, affecting residential areas, businesses, and civil infrastructure. In a prior attack on November 5, several buildings, including the Odesa Fine Arts Museum, were damaged, and eight people were injured.

Refugees received assistance at the Palanca border crossing, including psychological support and information about available resources in Moldova. Alexei Bukanov emphasized the importance of continuing these initiatives, which provide relief and support to families affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The UNFPA organization continues its work at the Ukraine-Moldova border, offering humanitarian aid to refugees and supporting international efforts to respond to the regional humanitarian crisis.
